working on a song (this is the rough edit), and pretty stoked about it.  i should clarify … by “working on a song”, i mean i’m writing words that perhaps can be put to music by someone smarter than I.  anyway … wanted to share this (and tagged people who may be interested in the writing, story, or music), because it’s meaningful to me.  if you like it, please share it with others.  if you hate it, that’s ok too.

Those chains on the ground

have quite the story to tell.

Sure, they don’t seem like much

But they proved strong enough.

You see, I carried them a long way

Got used to the safety in captivity

And in a way I’m afraid to leave them.

I never thought I’d see the day

When I laid to rest all that I believe in.

Freedom is a strange road

when you’re used to chained feet.

I don’t know which way to go

If I’m honest, I’m a bit overwhelmed.

But I hear a voice calling me forward

Seems a risk, but worth the take

I’ve got faith this Savior knows the way.

I never thought I’d see the day

When I’d see possibilities up ahead.

Gone now are the imprints

of those ankle chains.

A distant memory now it seems,

Freedom has a way of making you forgetful.

Onward I’ve moved to better things

like grace and hope and peace,

Looks like that Savior knew the way.

I never thought I’d see the day

When I’d see all I hoped for come alive.
